This application is designed to display the position of the Pole Star – Polaris in the Northern Hemisphere or Sigma Octantis in the Southern Hemisphere – within the polar scope of all iOptron® telescope/camera mounts.
The app employs a sophisticated algorithm to accurately calculate the position of the Pole Star, taking into consideration various factors like 3D space motion of the star, precession, temperature and barometric pressure-corrected atmospheric refraction, nutation, parallax, aberration, among others. The precision of the algorithm currently stands at sub 0.1 arc-seconds.
Furthermore, the app features a 10-minute marker reticle identical to the one implemented in iOptron® telescope mounts since 2014.
It is highly recommended for users of iOptron® SkyGuider Pro, iOptron® SkyTracker Pro, SkyGuider, and SkyTracker devices. Additionally, owners of any iOptron® telescope mount will find this app beneficial. It can also be utilized with other branded telescope/camera mounts equipped with a similar polar scope reticle.
- No manual intervention is necessary for iOS devices utilizing location services.
